This year marks a new beginning for SAGE Academy. Not only has the name of our building changed to Chatham Center for Innovation, but we have also added a second school to our building, the Chatham School of Science and Engineering. How does this impact the media center? The media center is often thought of as the heartbeat of the school. It can simultaneously serve as a center for learning and research, a gathering place, and a way to escape from the doldrums of everyday life through the pages of a great book. Last year we added a Makers' Space where students can create and explore through hands-on learning. We bought some electric components called Little Bits which students used to create a remote controlled "car".
This year, with the addition of CSSE, I really want to increase the use of the Makers' Space. To that end, we have begun our first engineering challenge-converting an old stationary bike into an electricity generator. Students are taking apart the bike and researching plans for converting the bike into a generator. We hope to have this project completed by the end of September. In addition to growing the Makers' Space, I am hoping to add more programs for the library including a weekly reading club and visits from guest authors. Don't worry students, we will still have our Friday Dance Parties and Open Mic Prime TImes! Stay tuned for more news and updates!
